The Screening & Early Detection Program is ICCA's primary intervention engine, focused on identifying cancer cases at the earliest and most treatable stages.
In Nigeria, the majority of cancer cases are diagnosed late — when treatment is more expensive, less effective, and survival rates drop significantly. This programme directly addresses that gap by bringing screening closer to the population instead of waiting for patients to present at hospitals.
Core Activities
- Community-based screening outreaches (urban, peri-urban, and rural)
- Targeted screening campaigns for high-risk populations (e.g., breast, cervical, prostate)
- Partnerships with diagnostic centres and hospitals for subsidised screening
- Referral pathways for follow-up diagnostics and treatment
Operational Approach
Screening activities are delivered through a mix of mobile and community outreach programmes, facility-based screening partnerships, and periodic mass screening campaigns.
All identified cases are documented and referred into ICCA's patient support and care pathway system, ensuring continuity beyond initial detection.
Key Outcomes
- Increased early-stage cancer detection rates
- Reduced late-stage presentation
- Lower long-term treatment costs for patients
- Creation of a structured pipeline into care services
